The Bloomsbury Global Encyclopedia of Women in Architecture 1960-2020 fills a void in architectural history, giving students, scholars and professional architects an authoritative reference to women architects and their work, and to key terms for gender and women’s rights in architecture.Alena Šrámková is considered one of the most important Czech architects of today. Alena Šrámková’s husband was architect Jan Šrámek (1924–1978), who had led the Beta Studio at the Design Institute of the City of Prague since1966. This studio designed projects that provided the couple the opportunity to worktogether, including the Prague Main Railway Station passenger terminal (1972–1977), co-authors Jan Šrámek, Jan Bočan, Josef Danda, as well as an office building for theengineering company ČKD on Prague’s Na Můstku Street (1972–1983), co-author JanŠrámek, that she has a greater share of authorship. The ČKD building is particularly influential because it was the first example of postmodernism in Czech architecture.Transformation and interpretation of traditional and seemingly ordinary elements of the building gradually leads Šrámková to radical reduction and moderation.Since the 1990s, Alena Šrámková taught students at the Faculty of Architecture in Praguewhile she had her own studio. Alena Šrámková was also active in professional architectural organizations and received many awards including the Czech Chamber of Architects (2007) and Ministry of Culture Award for Contribution to Architecture (2010).
