POLYMERS IN TERMS OF EXPLOSION AND FIRE HAZARDS IN THE ENVIRONMENT
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Polymer materials belong to the most widely used construction materials. When using polymer materials as construction materials, it is necessary to know the technology of their processing and application possibilities. The choice of the specific type of material often consists in the trade-off between quality (set of properties) and price. In the second half of the 20th century, polymer materials became one of the most versatile and multifunctional materials in the global economy. Nowadays, they are being increasingly applied in various fields, constituting the basis for modern life. However, it should be remembered that despite numerous applications, a number of advantages, polymer materials also have disadvantages - low heat resistance and small (compared to other construction materials) decomposition temperature. These defects ause that polymer materials pose a large fire and explosion hazard. Toxic combustion products pose the greatest threat to human health and life and, according to statistics, are the most common cause of deaths during fires. The article includes the characteristics of selected polymer materials as well as the analysis of explosion and fire hazards.
