    University education at technical universities takes place in typical forms. Technical forms of educational activities try to respond to current trends involving traditional and non-traditional methods. The newly accredited degree programs emphasize the need to use progressive methods and forms of education. Support for the development of modern methods and creativity is in the area of safety. Safety subjects aim to include the interconnection of theoretical and practical instruction. One of the subjects of the newly accredited Master&apos;s program is the subject of Risk Assessment. The inclusion of the subject in the Safety Planning study program (VSB-Technical University of Ostrava, Faculty of Safety Engineering) arose based on the need of the territory to analyze and evaluate risks responding to the change of key risks (e.g. blackout, drought etc.) related to the continuous change of the safety environment in the territory. To teach the subject, teaching materials are created for teaching unit exercises. The teaching materials lead to a systematic and coordinated analysis and assessment of risks by students based on the information obtained from available information sources with direct observation in a pre-selected area. The article describes the philosophy of setting up the subject, creating the content of teaching material as a possible tool for confronting theory with practice, thus ensuring the higher employability of graduates in the labor market in safety areas.
