    Significant impact of technical barriers on river flow has been demonstrated and highlighted in many scientific studies. Obstacles tend to be located directly in the riverbed or in the vicinity of a river and can modify the flow in numerous ways. For the purpose of studying the effect of linear technical barriers on flow has been developed specialised software, which is allowing the user to input various types of linear technical barriers. Part of Olša river basin has been chosen as the study area. The base of the software program is a graphical user interface in which the user is selecting the type of particular barrier and its spatial dimensions (e.g. height, width). Every single obstruction is also incorporated into the input topographic layer, which can be further analysed or processed by GIS or other modelling tools. In the initial phase of SW development can be proposed only permanent obstacle (i.e. water resistible). Later on the software is supposed to be developed to a version, in which calculations will be made also with less water resistible material such as sand bag barriers and embankments. The effect of obstacles on river's flow has been studied and assessed according to gathered real data when extreme flooding occurred in 2009 (at the end of June and start of July). It has been proposed and modelled several cases of barrier's location along the river Olše. The results of the barrier's effect and testing of application have to been made by 1D hydrodynamic tool HEC-RAS. The results showed full functionality of the application (programmed model) and significant impact of all proposed linear barriers on the flow of the inundation area.
