Biodiversity of Pseudomonas bacterial strains isolated from Ostrava Lagoons, Czech Republic
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Ostrava Lagoons in the Czech Republic are a highly polluted locality, which predominantly contain oil sludge. This sludge was concentrated in the Ostrava Lagoons for the whole 20th century and had originated from industrial processing of crude oil. Apart from the high contents of organic pollutants, the anthropogenic sediments in the lagoons also contain other toxic metal elements, such as As, Cd, Cu, Hg, Ni, and Pb. This study brings forward the distribution of Pseudomonas genus bacterial species which significantly contribute to the microbial diversity in the soils and sediments of old environmental loads. In total, 67 bacterial strains were isolated from the drawn samples in the locality. The strains were identified by means of 16S rDNA sequence analysis. The genus Pseudomonas (Gamma-Proteobacteria) was represented by 19 isolates classified into 14 species; in 5 isolates (Pseudomonas sp.) the species identification has not been successful to date, but the affiliation to the Pseudomonas taxonomic group was determined based on the phenotype identification using the Biolog System.
