The article presents a concept of demand forecasting system for increasing the quality of demand predictions in middle-term time horizon which represent an important input in the area of general planning. The designed system includes nine stages: productfamilies? determination, time dimensions identification, data collection and manipulation, time series analysis, forecasting methods selection, models building and evaluation, models implementation, forecasts combination and tracking results. The application of the designed system is illustrated using demand forecasting in a plant producing heavy plate cut shapes which is part of EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a.s. company.
