In addition to the emerging biogas, the product of biogas plants is digestate as well, which is usually used for fertilization. Due to the relatively strict legislative requirements, which must meet the digestates to be used for fertilization, it is necessary to design and evaluate other potential alternative use of digestates. Pyrolysis is one of the thermal processes which could be eventually applied for the purpose of energy and material utilization of digestate that can not be primarily used on agricultural or non-agricultural land. This paper presents the initial laboratory experiments of pyrolysis of dried digestates. After pyrolysis was performed mass balance of the pyrolysis products, off-line analysis of the pyrolysis gas and evaluation of thesolid and liquid residues. Mass balance of the pyrolysis tests were determined by weighing of individual products from the pyrolysis (solid residue, liquid residue). The amount of generated gas was determined by grossing up to 100 %. The
