The paper deals with issues connected with the investigation of Fe-C based metallic alloys by DTA method (Differential Thermal Analysis). There are many experimental factors that can influence resulting experimental data. Influence of heating (cooling) rate must be considered, sample mass also, sensors types, crucibles used by experiment, form of sample, atmosphere, equipment arrangement itself, etc. There are general suggestions how to perform experiments with metallic materials to obtain the desired and reliable data. But, in many cases it is necessary to modify the experimental conditions with respect to the material alone and obtaining of needed data (corresponding and reliable data). The problems that can be encountered by the investigation of Fe-C based alloys are also decarburisation and oxidation. These processes can substantially influence resulting data.
