To understand better economic processes and their consequences in small areas (and to utilise data other than the unemployment rate) , it is necessary to consider these labour markets more comprehensively and to consider many factors ( including surrounding environment) than affect job supply and job demand. The authors have conducted a multivariate and multicriteria evaluation of the labour matket of the Moravian - Silesian region of the Czech Republic. As an alternative to the use of administrative boudaries, the processing of non-traditional data sources, and the rare utilisation of analysis and visualization, this analysis of the social situation places emphasis on unemployment in the area of the town Nový Jičín.
