The importance of information systems (IS) and their strategic character is out of discussion today. Specific attention is given to IS development (planning) process structure. The system analysis approach and the strategic management one both offering the information system development process structure are critically compared from the perspective what new the strategic conception (that is younger of course) brings. The comparison is summarised in conclusion that both structures well complement each other where the system analysis approach is more focused on procedural aspects of IS development while the strategic management view underlines the "strategic" circumstances. The discussion of "IS success" is presented then and the more justified definition of that is offered as well as the success measurement idea is outlined.
