Transformation of the world economy in the recent decades has aroused a restoration of big cities' significance as a place for certain types of activities and functions. This, however, does not mean surviving of old forms, but the emergency of new ones initiated by the globalization and a variety of economic activities as a result of telecommunication development. The author describes the transformation of economic activities in big cities. It looks like there were two economics. One of them is traditional, based on the development of manufacturing industry. The other one, service economics, has recently appeared. It is predominantly focused on serving to the global market. The author also mentions how this situation reflects in the development of regional metropolises
