This article presents the possibilities of using one of the multi-criteria discrete methods in the engineering design. Illustrated with an example, the way of using Electre I method in the evaluation of quality features, which describe technical means the purchase of which is being taken into consideration in connection with the expected start-up of a new coal-mine area, has been discussed.
