IMPROVEMENT OF BIOGAS PRODUCTION FROM THE ANAEROBIC DIGESTION OF WASTE BIOMASS USING RAW AND MODIFIED WITH NITRIC ACID BIOCHAR DERIVED FROM THE PYROLYSIS OF BIOMASS AND DIGESTATE
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Biomass- and digestate-derived biochars were modified with nitric acid (HNO3) solution and examined in biochemical methane potential (BMP) tests to determine their capability to improve the biogas and methane production from the anaerobic digestion of corn silage. Corn silage produced a typical amount of methane for the specific type of lignocellulosic material (0.308 m3kgVS-1). Biochar led to an increment of methane generation from the corn silage in all cases. Addition of sawdust-derived biochar (BCS) resulted in greater improvement of methane production (1.21-fold) that attained under the presence of a digestate-derived biochar (BCD) (1.13-fold). Chemical modification of biochars had a significant impact on materials composition and structure and thus was expected to substantially influence the methane generation at the BMP assays. However, modification had a negative effect on the capability of BCS to increase the methane generation potential of corn silage. In contrast, the modified digestate-derived biochar (M-BCD) exhibited a much higher potential to promote the anaerobic digestion efficiency of the biomass feedstock than its untreated counterpart since methane production augmented to 0.402 m3kgVS-1 with M-BCD addition in the digestion of corn silage. M-BCD exhibited also the highest capability to remove most of the H2S generated during the anaerobic digestion.
