Die Semiologie kann in einem gewissen Sinne als Magiologie verstanden werden. Semiologie ist die Theorie der Zeichen, Magiologie die Theorie der Zauber. Beide Disziplinen haben das Interesse an dem Thema der Wirklichkeitsrepräsentation durch Zeichen gemeinsam. Den Glauben an das feste Band zwischen dem Zeichen und dem realen Ding unterzog schon J. G. Frazer einer magiologischen Untersuchung, danach wieder F. Mauthner oder K. Kraus, weiter die Semiotiker R. Barthes, J. Derrida, U. Eco und andere. Die Semiologie hat gezeigt, dass die referentielle Verirrung die Grundlage der Zeichenmagie darstellt, die in der Idee der Repräsentation angelegt ist, durch die extensionale Täuschung gestärkt. Dank diesen Täuschungen kann man magische Spiele mit Denotation/Konnotation oder mit der Schichtung der Zeichenkodes entfalten, sowie weitere magische Verfahren. Die Verbindung der semiologischen und magiologischen Untersuchungen führt zur Aufdeckung von weiteren magiologischen Konsequenzen der Semiolog

Semiology can be, in some way, perceived as magiology. Semiology is a study of signs and symbols, while magiology is a study of witchery. Both of them are linked by a common interest in the problem of representing the reality by means of signs and symbols. The theory of a strong relationship between a sign and a thing existing in reality has been an object of magiological investigation carried out by J. G. Frazer, later F. Mauthner and K. Kraus and eventually by semiologists R. Barthes, J. Derrida, U. Eco and others. Semiology has proved that the essential element of the magic of signs is a referential fallacy based upon the idea of representation, enhanced by extensional fallacy. Due to these fallacies the magic plays on denotation and connotation, apposition of sign codes and further magical procedures can be developed. Connection of semiotical and magiological researches results in new detections of magiological consequences in semiology.
