This paper illustrates the consequences of social political changes in the process of forming social workers' professional identity and its character in the Czech Republic. The paper uses the example of the social reform process that took place in 2012 and that was connected with vast changes in the organisation of the social benefit system as well as with the shifts of competencies of the municipalities. These widely formulated social determinates of the social workers' professional identity haven't been examined so far. The paper is based on the experience of the professionals working in the social work distant education system, which is the area where the current social workers, who study to become academically educated, can confront their real professional experience with social work theoretical theses. The social workers' identity is therefore a very frequent discussion topic within these study programs.
