HIGHER EDUCATION AS A DETERMINANT OF THE ECONOMIC GROWTH. A COMPARISON BETWEEN CZECH REPUBLIC AND ROMANIA
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Higher education is one of the most important determinants of the economic growth worldwide. In this paper we investigate the causality and the long run relationship between higher education and economic growth in Czech Republic and Romania for 1980-2013time period. In our approach we used a vector error correction model to analyze the long run relationship between higher education and economic growth and the Granger method to test the causality between variables. The variables employed in our analysisare the number of students enrolled in higher education at all levels, the public education expenditure as a share of GDP and the GDP per capita as a measure of the economic growth. We used data series for these variables available from World Bank, Eurostat, UNESCO Institute for Statistics, Czech Statistical Office and National Statistics Institute of Romania. Our econometric approach was based on checking the stationarity of the data series with ADF and Phillips-Perron methods and test
