Das Archiv des Erzbistums Olomouc enthält mehrere Briefe, die sich auf den Maler und Bildhauer Petr Strudel (1660-1714) beziehen. Eines der Blätter stammt direkt von seiner Hand, die anderen sind mit dem Namen des kaiserlichen Architekten Giovanni Pietro Tencalla (1629-1702) verbunden, der längere Zeit in Wien lebte und den Olmützer Bischof wegen Kontakten mit einer Reihe anderer Künstler kontaktierte. Obwohl der Artikel das Werk von Peter Strudel über einige bisher unbekannte Arbeiten nicht erweitert, findet er auf der Grundlage der Analyse und Interpretation kürzlich gefundener und neu geschriebener Archivdokumente neue Erkenntnisse über die Arbeit dieses Malers im Dienste von Olomouc Bischof Karl II. von Liechtenstein-Castelcorn (1624-1695) in Mähren, das in der zweiten Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts zu den führenden Gönnern Mitteleuropas gehörte. Die Korrespondenz über Peter aus den Jahren 1685-1689 zeigt, dass er ein Bild eines unbekannten Motivs gemalt hat. Der Ursprung dieses nicht konservierten Werkes war von einem Missverständnis mit dem Bischof begleitet, da andere vom Maler gemalte Werke mit seiner Realisierung mehrere Jahre zurückblieben. Aus der Korrespondenz geht auch hervor, dass 1693 einer der Strudel-Brüder, vielleicht Paul, das fehlende Marmorporträt des Bischofs angefertigt wurde.

In the archive materials belonging to the Archbishopric of Olomouc are to be found several letters relating to the painter and sculptor Peter Strudel (1660–1714). One of them comes from his own hand, while the others are from the correspondence of the imperial architect Giovanni Pietro Tencalla (1629–1702), who lived for a long time in Vienna and acted as mediator for the Bishop of Olomouc in contacts with a number of other artists. This article does not add any hitherto unknown and extant works to the oeuvre of Peter Strudel. However, on the basis of the analysis and interpretation of recently discovered and transcribed archive documents, it presents new findings about the activities of this painter in Moravia in the service of Karl of Lichtenstein-Castelcorn, Bishop of Olomouc (1624–1695), one of the most prominent patrons of the arts in Central Europe in the second half of the 17th century. From the correspondence referring to Peter Strudel from the years 1685–1689 it transpires that the Bishop of Olomouc commissioned him to produce a painting whose subject is unknown. The process of creating this work (which has not been preserved) was accompanied by a disagreement with the Bishop, for the completion of the work was delayed by several years as the painter was busy with other commissions. The correspondence also reveals that one of the Strudel brothers, probably Paul, produced a portrait of the Bishop in marble in 1693, whose fate is today unknown.
