Desde o início da imigração italiana para o Brasil que começou nos finais do século 19, os imigrantes passaram por diferentes períodos que influenciaram o estado atual de seus dialetos. O primeiro período foi o período do medo durante a ditadura de Getúlio Vargas quando foi proibído de falar línguas de imigrantes, depois, mesmo sem a proibição os imigrantes tiveram vergonha de falar italiano porque a única língua da formação na escola foi o português. Mas apesar disso depois de quase cento e cinquenta anos os dialetos ainda são falados e se tornaram parte do patrimônio cultural brasileiro. A situação sociolinguística em Nova Trento e Nova Veneza, as cidades que escolhemos para a nossa pesquisa, varia em vários aspetos. Em Nova Trento até a geração mais nova sabe e gosta de falar dialetos enquanto em Nova Veneza a situação é bem diferente, só a geração mais velha sabe falar dialeto, os jovens preferem estudar italiano da Itália. A diversidade entre essas duas comunidades são originadas na situação política presente ainda no território europeu, que influenciou a consciência nacional dos imigrantes italianos. As diferenças entre os imigrantes italianos aumentaram gradualmente após a chegada no Brasil, principalmente por causa da política linguística, da influência do português e, posteriormente, da influência da língua e da cultura italianas. A língua italiana afetou muito a formação sociolinguística em Nova Veneza, até podemos dizer que quase eliminou o dialeto italiano dos primeiros imigrantes que chegaram no Brasil enquanto em Nova Trento o dialeto é mais falado que o italiano.

From the beginning of Italian immigration to Brazil that began in the late 19th century, immigrants went through different periods that influenced the current state of their dialects. The first period was the period of fear during Getulio Vargas&apos; dictatorship when speaking the languages of immigrants was prohibited, and even after this period, the immigrants were ashamed to speak their languages because the only language of the formation in the school was Portuguese. But despite this, after almost one hundred and fifty years the dialects are still spoken and have become part of Brazilian cultural heritage. The sociolinguistic situation in Nova Trento and Nova Veneza, the cities we have chosen for our research, varies in several aspects. In Nova Trento even the youngest generation knows and likes to speak dialects while in Nova Veneza the situation is quite different, only the oldest generation is able to speak dialect, young people prefer to study Italian spoken in Italy. The diversity between these two communities originates in the political situation present in European territory, which influenced the national consciousness of the Italian immigrants. The differences between Italian immigrants increased gradually after arrival in Brazil, mainly because of the language policy, the influence of Portuguese and, later, the influence of Italian language and culture. The Italian language affected a lot the sociolinguistic formation in Nova Veneza, we can say that it almost eliminated the Italian dialect of the first immigrants that arrived in Brazil whereas in New Trento the dialect is more spoken than Italian.
