El artículo presentado se centra en la situación de los emigrantes checos en Argentina en la década de 1920. Aunque habían jugado un papel vital en el movimiento de independencia de Checoslovaquia, después de la guerra fueron abandonados por su propio gobierno. El Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores checo estaba interesado principalmente en el teatro europeo para reforzar la posición de la república recién creada. Esta política despertó descontento y protesta entre los checo-argentinos que fueron abordados por dos importantes personalidades de la década: Vlastimil Kybal y Ferdinand Hýža. El primero fue un famoso historiador y diplomático checoslovaco que contribuyó al establecimiento y desarrollo de las relaciones entre la República Centroeuropea y América Latina, especialmente durante su estadía en Brasil entre 1925 y 1927. Él otro fue administrador del Ministerio de Comercio checo quien en 1927 realizó una gira de estudios y visitó a sus compatriotas en Argentina. Ambas misiones fueron influyentes para el reconocimiento de los inmigrantes checos en Argentina, y también del propio país como un posible socio comercial en la próxima década. Este artículo se basa en material de archivo, especialmente de la Institución Hoover de la Universidad de Stanford, California, del Archivo del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores checo y del Archivo Nacional Checo.

The presented article focuses on the situation of the Czech emigrants in Argentina in the 1920’s. Although they had played a vital role in the independence movement of Czechoslovakia, after the war they were almost completely abandoned by their own government. The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs was interested mainly in the European theatre in order to bolster the position of the newly created republic. This policy aroused discontent and protest among the Czech-Argentinians that were addressed by two important personalities of the decade: Vlastimil Kybal, and Ferdinand Hýža. The first one was a famous Czechoslovak historian and diplomat who contributed to the establishment and development of the relations between the Central European republic and Latin America especially during his stay in Brazil between 1925 and 1927. The latter was an administrator of the Czech Ministry of Commerce who in 1927 carried out a study tour and visited his compatriots in Argentina. Both their missions were influential for the recognition of the Czech immigrants in Argentina, and also of the country itself as a potential trading partner in the decade to come. This article is based on archive material especially from the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, California, from the Czech Foreign Ministry Archive, and the Czech National Archive.
