The Acquisition of Czech as a Foreign Language by Slavic and non-Slavic Speakers: Possibilities and Limits
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The paper deals with the acquisition of Czech as a foreign language. In the introductory part, the debate on terms foreign language, second language, mother tongue and native speaker is commented and the terms needed for this text are selected. The article is based on the assumption that there are some similarities and differences between the acquisition of the mother tongue and the foreign language (based on the functionalist theory of language acquisition according to J. Piaget) and that the mother tongue significantly influences the acquisition of the foreign language. The article presents partial results of the research, which was focused on how Slavic and non-Slavic mother tongue influences the acquisition of Czech. It shows that the Slavic mother tongue allows for a faster pace of acquisition in its early stages, but requires more time and attention at more advanced levels to eliminate interference errors.
