Der Beitrag zeigt, wie das Motiv des Teufelspaktes in Heinrich Zschokkes "Walpurgisnacht" (1812) inszeniert wird, wobei zunächst das (idealtypische) Grundmodell des Teufelspaktes bzw. die Segmente seines Abschlusses (etwa im faustischen Sinne) rekonstruiert werden, um im nächsten Schritt seine Modifizierung bei Zschokke zu analysieren. Als Einleitung zu dieser Analyse wird ebenfalls der kulturhistorische Kontext des Motivs angedeutet, d.h. es wird auch auf die neue Darstellungsform der Teufelsfigur in der Spätromantik, auf ihre Psychologisierung, Vermenschlichung und die damit verbundene Selbstreflexion und ihren neuen Zweck in der Literatur eingegangen. Neben der Teufelsfigur thematisiert der Beitrag ebenfalls die Figur des “Vertragspartners” und definiert sie.

The article shows how the motif of deal with the devil is narrated in Heinrich Zschokke's 'Walpurgisnacht' (1812), first reconstructing the (ideal-typical) basic model of the deal or the segments of its conclusion (for instance in the Faustian sense), in order to analyse its modification in Zschokke's work in the next step. As an introduction to this analysis, the cultural-historical context of the motif is also indicated, i.e. the new form of representation of the devil figure in late Romanticism, its psychologisation, humanisation and the associated self-reflection and its new purpose in literature will also be addressed. In addition to the devil figure, the article also addresses and defines the figure of the "contract partner".
