Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit der literarischen Darstellung des Teufelspaktes in der deutschen Romantik. Der Beitrag beschreibt in Form einer Einleitung, wie die „moderne“ Darstellung der Teufelsfigur fungiert und welche Funktion das Paktmotiv selbst eigentlich hat. In diesem Zusammenhang beschreibt der Aufsatz die von den Autoren der Romantik oft wahrgenommenen Veränderungen in der modernen Gesellschaft: die Orientierung an Geld und materiellen Gütern und den Verfall der Moral. All dies wird am konkreten Beispiel von Adalbert von Chamissos Peter Schlemihls wundersame Geschichte (1814) dargestellt. Die Analyse dieses literarischen Werks konzentriert sich auf die Figur des Teufels, seinen menschlichen Vertragspartner, sowie auf den eigentlichen Prozess des Paktabschlusses.

The article focuses on the literary depiction of a pact with the devil in German Romanticism. In the form of introduction, the paper describes how the figure of the devil is depicted in a ‘modern’ way and what is the actual function of motif of the pact. In connection with this, it describes the changes in modern society as often perceived by the authors of Romanticism: the orientation towards money and material goods and the decline of morality. All this is presented using a concrete example of Adalbert von Chamisso’s Peter Schlemihls wundersame Geschichte (1814). The analysis of this literary work focuses on the figure of the devil, his human contract partner and also on the actual process of concluding the pact.
