This chapter aims to outline the relationship between alienation and authenticity, in the context of how this relationship has practical applications in the philosophy of management. We will show that these existentially oriented concepts are very much applicable today and are gaining in importance with contemporary demands associated with many critical situations, such as the coronavirus pandemic. On the examples of Western philosophy (first part of the chapter) and Eastern philosophy (second part of the chapter), we point out that in some cases these concepts occur in both, despite the cultural and historical diversity on both continents. However, these comparisons must be approached with great caution, because a Western perspective tends to commit Orientalist readings of Eastern philosophies.
