The Realization of the Glottal Stop in Utterances Read by Students of Czech as a Second Language

The paper presents the results of a research focusing on realization of the glottal stop in utterances read by foreigners studying Czech as a foreign language. In Czech, the glottal stop is primarily used as a delimitation signal and is usually naturally pronunced before vowels at the beginning of a word after a pause or at the beginning of a word base after prefix. The aim of the analysis presented here is to find out whether there is a tendency to link the words without pronouncing glottal stop in foreigners&apos; speech, what type of deviations can be detected and in which words/word combinations they make mistakes most often. The partial aim of the study is to point out the need to include the glottal stop to pronunciation lessons already from language level A1.
