Senior citizen population: an easy target for cybercrime
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The increasing use of the Internet in everyday matters by people over the age of sixty calls upon the need for adequate cyber security awareness. It is highly important to pay attention to the cyber security awareness of this vulnerable group. A survey of behavior on the Internet was conducted on a group of 110 seniors from one region in the Czech Republic. The present research reveals alarming results pointed to only a very low level of cyber security awareness of people belonging to that age group. By carrying out an online survey consisting of a questionnaire with open and closed questions focusing on key cybersecurity behavior like device securement, proactive checking, and responding to fraudulent messages and phishing it was discovered that older users manifest a very low level of general resilience. The research indicates as well a very low responsiveness on one-off training courses. These findings have implications for the future design of targeted cybersecurity interventions and the development of national policy and practice focused on seniors.
