The conference responds to the rapid changes that have taken place in the management, operation, and funding of academic institutions in recent decades. The transformation of universities and research institutions affects the whole system of education and research (from the funding of organisations to academic career planning), but it also raises questions about the status (and meaning) of education and science in contemporary society. The conference aims to map the various forms of transformations in the functioning of science and education and to identify relevant issues, not only at a general and systemic level but also through the examples of specific universities and research institutions.
