Le chapitre se concentre sur les figures maternelles des textes autobiographiques Devance tout adieu de Jean Sulivan et Ma mère avait ce geste d'Alain Rémond dans lesquels les deux écrivains rendent hommage à leur mère. Il met en évidence des aspects biographiques communs tels que l'influence de la région d'origine (la Bretagne catholique), la relation problématique avec le père et la fixation sur la mère qui, bien qu'appartenant à un groupe de personnes insignifiantes (manque d'éducation et d'importance dans la société), se caractérise par la sagesse que les fils adoptent. En outre, on souligne la fonction compensatoire (palliative) des deux textes, où l'auteur, par l'acte d'écriture, comble le vide laissé par le défunt et approfondit la relation à un niveau plus profond. Enfin, l'attention est portée sur les aspects métatextuels des œuvres.

The chapter focuses on the maternal figures of Jean Sulivan's autobiographical texts Devance tout adieu and Alain Rémond's Ma mère avait ce geste, in which both writers pay tribute to their mothers. It highlights common biographical aspects such as the influence of the native region (Catholic Bretagne), the problematic relationship with the father, and the fixation on the mother who, although belonging to a group of people of no importance (lack of education and importance in society), is characterized by the wisdom that sons adopt. Furthermore, the compensatory (palliative) function of both texts is pointed out, where the author, through the act of writing, closes the gap left by the deceased and deepens the relationship on a deeper level. Finally, attention is paid to the metatextual aspects of the works.
