Rafiq Kathwari is a celebrated Kashmiri-American poet, renowned for his poignant exploration of themes such as displacement, identity, and familial bonds. He became the first non-Irish recipient of the prestigious Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award for his debut collection, In Another Country. Kathwari&apos;s works often draw inspiration from his experiences in Kashmir, his mother&apos;s struggles with mental illness during the Partition of India, and broader human tragedies like the conflict in Palestine. His most recent collection, My Mother&apos;s Scribe (2020), offers a deeply personal narrative told through the eyes of a young boy witnessing his mother’s descent into madness amidst socio-political upheaval. A skilled translator, Kathwari has also rendered select poems of South Asian poet-philosopher Muhammad Iqbal into English. Dividing his time between New York, Dublin, and Kashmir, Kathwari’s poetry bridges continents and centuries, blending memory with invention and reality with surrealism.
