This is the afterword to translations of Jan Zábrana's poetry into English. It introduces the poet, and argues that Zábrana's poetry is permeated by works in different languages, which arose from his own work as a translator. It also argues that the poetry has specific features of rhyme that are not to be found in other 20th century Czech poetry. The chapter also argues that the Czech poet's discomfort in his time and country was not necessarily and solely caused by the Communist regime, but by his broader alienation from the 20th century. This point is made through a comparison with Theodor Adorno.
