The popularizing text Language Battles and Camouflage: Exhibits from the Jewish Museum in Prague Bear Witness presents the linguistic dynamics of Czech and Moravian Jewish communities from the 18th to the 20th century through inscriptions on synagogue objects. These inscriptions—in Hebrew, German, Yiddish and Judeo-German, and later also in Czech—reflect transformations of identity, religious and social loyalties, and tensions between sacred and secular language.
