Questo studio è dedicato alla presentazione del ruolo dei fedeli laici nel processo sinodale, considerando l’aspetto teologico del tema; ossia quali punti di partenza ecclesiologici determinino la posizione dei laici nello svolgere i loro incarichi negli organi sinodali. Punto di riferimento è stata la normativa orientale e le forme sinodali specifiche previste nel CCEO. Poi sono state sviluppate le implicazioni che queste hanno, essenzialmente molto simili, se non uguali, anche per l’ambito della Chiesa latina. Dopo una breve introduzione storica è dapprima considerata la teologia del Concilio Vaticano II che riformula e ridefinisce la comprensione della sinodalità. Poi, è stato presentato l’insegnamento di Papa Francesco sulla sinodalità. Per ragioni di completezza è fatto cenno ad alcune forme sinodali nel CCEO ed alle forme giuridiche dell’inserimento dei fedeli laici nell’attività sinodale. Come sintesi è stato formulato il valore giuridico ecclesiologicamente fondato dell’attività sinodale dei fedeli laici e alcune osservazioni critiche sul tema.

This study is dedicated to the presentation of the role of the lay faithful in the synodal process, considering the theological aspect of the topic; that is, what ecclesiological starting points determine the position of the laity in carrying out their tasks in the synodal structures. The point of reference was the Eastern canon law and the specific synodal forms provided for in the CCEO. The implications of these were then developed, which are essentially very similar, for the Latin Church as well. After a brief historical introduction, the theology of the Second Vatican Council is first considered, which reformulates and redefines the understanding of synodality. Then, the teaching of Pope Francis on synodality is presented. For the sake of completeness, mention is made of some synodal forms in the CCEO and the juridical forms of the inclusion of the lay faithful in synodal activity. As a summary, the ecclesiologically founded juridical value of the synodal activity of the lay faithful and some critical observations on the subject were formulated.
