Si tratta della prima edizione critica della traduzione dal russo all'italiano di tutte le lettere dello scienziato, filosofo e teologo Pavel A. Florenskij (1882-1837) dal carcere e dai gulag staliniani. Le lettere, scritte ai membri della famiglia, contengono molti ricordi autobiografici personali, riflessioni filosofiche, scientifiche e culturali, nonché brevi mini-trattati su questioni/problemi matematici e geometrici. Nonostante venissero sottoposte a rigorosa censura, esse rappresentano un documento di particolare eccezionalità per il rilievo esistenziale e teoretico, paragonabile a "Resistenza e resa" di Dietrich Bonhoeffer o ai "Diari" di Etty Hillesum, congiungendo intimamente biografia e pensiero, metafisica ed esistenza, ragione e passione di un testimone tra i più autentici della scienza e della cultura russa/europea del XX secolo. Queste lettere dal gulag sono considerate dagli studiosi di Florenskij l'ultimo opus magnum del suo pensiero. L'edizione comprende un ampio studio introduttivo con bibliografia e numerose note esplicative.

This is the first critical edition of the translation from Russian into Italian of all the letters of the scientist, philosopher and theologian Pavel A. Florensky (1882-1837) from prison and the Stalinist gulags. The letters, written to family members, contain many personal autobiographical recollections, philosophical, scientific and cultural reflections, as well as short mini-treatises on mathematical and geometric questions/problems. Despite being subjected to rigorous censorship, they represent a document of particularly exceptional existential and theoretical relevance, comparable to Dietrich Bonhoeffer's "Resistance and Surrender" or Etty Hillesum's "Diaries", intimately uniting biography and thought, metaphysics and existence, reason and passion of one of the most authentic witnesses of 20th century Russian/European science and culture. These letters from the Gulag are considered by Florensky scholars to be the last magnum opus of his thought. The edition includes an extensive introductory study with bibliography and numerous explanatory notes.
