Cytokinins and Plant Phenolics: A Cooperative Metabolism
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Cytokinin dehydrogenase (CKX) is a key enzyme in regulation of the levels of active cytokinins in plants. We have previously reported that CKX can use products of oxidation of plant phenolics by tyrosinase and peroxidase as acceptors of electrons from oxidized cytokinin and that the phloem sap of maize seedlings contains unknown phenolic precursor of this acceptor. In the present work we investigated a set of substituted phenolic acids for their ability to serve as precursors of electron acceptors in the CKX reaction and analyzed the phloem sap of maize seedlings for the presence of carboxylic phenolic acids using HPLC with a Q-TOF detector. Only p-coumaric, caffeic and chlorogenic acids were converted to effective electron acceptors in the presence ofmushroom tyrosinase. Ferulic acid showed weak activity and analogous compounds derived from 4-hydroxybenzoic acid were not active. Compounds effective in in vitro CKX assay were identified in the phloem sap.
