The critical edition reflects the situation surrounding the composer's last authorised versions and includes a number of documents that were considered lost or missing (textual sources, Bureš's unknown correspondence, etc.). This edition offers new information about origination and performances of Bohuslav Martinů's cantatas and the contemporary cultural and political context. The previous editions of these works contained numerous minor errors, inconsistencies, and solutions that went against the intentions of the composer (the addition of missing texts, vocals, dynamics, tempo changes, etc.). The need for a critical edition of these cantatas stems from the fact that the composer did not participate in the publication of any of them, aside from his cursory post-publication proofreading of Opening of the Springs.
