Education for Active European Citizenship in the Czech Republic
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The topic of active citizenship plays an important role in the Czech education system, both in formal and non-formal education. Education for active citizenship in the Czech Republic is part of the curriculum documents for all levels of the education system (kindergarten, primary and secondary schools), which define key competences and binding outcomes for, among other things, the educational area of man and society and specifically for the subject of education for citizenship. In a brief analysis of the topic of education for active citizenship and its teaching in the Czech Republic, we focus on clarifying the historical, political and social context that shaped the concept of citizenship, civic identity and the relationship of the population to the Czech state. In addition to the historical context in which education for active citizenship has been gradually conceived, topics that support the development of active civic engagement among pupils in a democratic state are also presented. We also reflect on the contemporary challenges and opportunities that education for civic responsibility entails in the context of current social changes and globalization.
