In questo articolo rispondiamo alla domanda se e, in tal caso, come l'omosessualità sia rappresentata nelle fiabe di H.C. Andersen. In particolare, cerchiamo di rispondere alle seguenti domande: 1) Esistono motivi omosessuali nei personaggi delle fiabe di Andersen?; 2) Quali simboli legati ll'omosessualità sono contenuti nelle sue fiabe? Per rispondere a queste domande di ricerca, abbiamo scelto il metodo dell'analisi del contenuto letterario, all'interno del quale abbiamo cercato temi, motivi o riferimenti pertinenti. La motivazione di questa indagine risiede nel fatto che le fiabe d'autore riflettono la soggettività dell’autore, la sua visione del mondo e varie convinzioni personali. Abbiamo scoperto che Andersen incorpora simboli come l’usignolo, il soldatino (di stagno), la rosa e la vita nelle sue fiabe. Questi simboli corrispondono in una certa misura all’omosessualità e alcuni di essi sono ancora utilizzati all’interno della comunità omosessuale. Andersen non evita la rappresentazione delle unioni tra persone dello stesso sesso o di tematiche transgender. Rispondendo alle succitate domande, colmiamo in parte una lacuna presente negli studi sull’eredità letteraria del fondatore della fiaba d’autore.

In this article, we answer the question of whether and, if so, how homosexuality is represented in H.C. Andersen's fairy tales. In particular, we seek to answer the following questions: 1) Are there homosexual motifs in the characters of Andersen's fairy tales? 2) What symbols related to homosexuality are contained in his fairy tales? To answer these research questions, we chose the method of literary content analysis, within which we searched for relevant themes, motifs, or references. The motivation for this investigation lies in the fact that fairy tales reflect the author's subjectivity, his worldview, and various personal beliefs. We discovered that Andersen incorporates symbols such as the nightingale, the (tin) soldier, the rose, and life into his fairy tales. These symbols correspond to some extent to homosexuality, and some of them are still used within the homosexual community. Andersen does not shy away from depicting same-sex unions or transgender issues. By answering the above questions, we partially fill a gap in the studies on the literary legacy of the founder of the author's fairy tale.
