The 38th InSEA World Congress, titled Unexpected Territories, Shifting Grounds and Permanence in Art Education, was held from 21–25 July 2025 in Olomouc, Czech Republic, with both in-person and online participation. This international event was organized under the auspices of the Czech Section of the International Society for Education through Art (InSEA) in collaboration with the Department of Art Education, Faculty of Education, Palacký University Olomouc, and in cooperation with InSEA. The congress aimed to foster international dialogue and exchange of research, practice, and theoretical perspectives within art education and related fields, engaging professionals, researchers, teachers, students, and early career scholars from across the globe. The thematic focus addressed how contemporary challenges — including cultural, technological, and social shifts — shape both the practice and understanding of education through art. By invoking the metaphor of “unexpected territories,” the congress foregrounded discussions about the dynamic intersections of tradition, digital innovation, identity, and visual culture in teaching, learning, and research. Participants contributed through a diverse programme of keynote lectures, paper sessions, panels, workshops, posters, exhibitions, and virtual participatory spaces, highlighting current developments and debates in art education. The event provided both a forum for critical reflection on the evolving role of art education in a globalized world and opportunities to build collaborative networks across disciplines and cultural contexts.
