Selfconcept in children with cerebral palsy: Attitudes towards physical activity

The main aim of this article is to summarize general overview and our findings in the topic of self-concept in children with cerebral palsy (CP) in preschool and young school age children. The overview is completed with research results from dissertationthesis "Evaluation of self-confidence in children with cerebral palsy" (Čurdová, 2005), done under the supervision of prof. Hana Válková. Main instrument to measure self-concept is the Pictorial scale for perceived competence and social acceptance in children with CP (Veermer & Veenhof, 1997); its Czech version (OSSSA-DMO) (Čurdová, Vermeer, & Válková, 2001; Čurdová, 2005). Scale measures 4 areas of self-concept, and was used on the experimental group of 6 children. Children's self-confidence profileswere measured in a one year period (scale used in kindergarten and in 1st class of the school) and findings were compiled as case studies.
