The implications of price transmission asymmetry in Czech food grains' chain

On the basis of results of price transmission analysis (PTA) the paper aims to explain the asymmetry of price transmission in commodity chain following the production of food grains in the Czech Republic. Price transmission analysis is carried out in three step: (1) first, the extent of transmitted price changes is measured by the coefficient of elasticity of price transmission (EPT), the results are presented in the form of matrix, which represents supply as well as demand direction; (2) second, the analysis of price differences is carried out, whereas positive, as well as negative price changes are treated separately; (3) as the last step, the impact of time delay on price transmission process is assessed. The data used represent monthly prices (resp. their differences) in the period from January 1995 to September 2005 with the distinction on milling (flour) and bakery products (bread, buns and rolls).
