This paper deals with the working and managerial activities of department and head nurses in Czech hospitals. There were 28 public, city', university and private hospitals involved in this research from 1st November to 30th December 2009. The aim of thisresearch was to evaluate and analyse time management by department and head nurses and performing their managerial functions. The results were based on questionnaires completed by 342 respondents. The department and head nurses were asked about their use of normal working time and significance of managerial functions. The findings were compared between hospitals classified by founder. The statistical analysis sought the degree of correlation between these variables: kind of activities (Managerial activities, Administrative activities, Health care activities), the number of subordinates, the length of health care practices and the length of managerial practice.
