Academic Integrity in Eastern Europe: Beyond Corruption and Plagiarism
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The chapter places academic ethics in Eastern Europe in a broader cultural and economic context with regard to GDP and the corruption perception index. The findings are based on an analysis of the current literature, which in Eastern Europe focuses on corruption and plagiarism. The authors also list projects that have contributed to improving the culture of academic integrity in recent years at the national and international levels. The key output of the chapter is ideas on topics that researchers in the field of academic ethics should address in the coming years: In particular, contract cheating, which is still little explored in non-English-speaking countries. According to the authors, the scientific community should also focus on key topics that resonate in certain countries but are generalizable to the whole region. In conclusion, the authors emphasize the connection between the values of academia and society as a whole and call on educational institutions to take responsibility for promoting ethical values in society.
