The aim of this paper is to analyse the relationship of indicators of population education and unemployment within the entire EU in the period 2000-2011 and in a set of individual member states in 2011. Following indicators were used: the percentage of the working age population 25-64 years, who have attained at least complete secondary education, the percentage of 25-64 years, who have undergone lifelong training and the unemployment rate in the population 25-64 years. Residuals were determined based on calculated trends in the indicators and through residuals of time series the correlation between the level of education of the population and unemployment came out as indirect and low to moderate. The same result was obtained from correlations betweenindicators for the set of data from particular EU countries in 2011.
