The paper presents results of research project TAČR Alfa TA04020087 &quot;Development and manufacture of variable forwarder with a focus on ecologically clean work and efficient conversion of biomass in forestry&quot;. Basic project result is a certified forwarder prototype with the carrying capacity of ca.5 tons. The forwarder is equipped with optimized lightweight framing and optional wheeled chassis with a possibility of using rails. The machine variability consists in optional equipment of wheeled chassis with tracks, replacement of wheeled chassis with caterpillar units, alternative machine equipment with the traditional stanchion superstructure or with compression sides for hauling low-diameter heterogeneous dendromass (e.g. from cleaning, thinning or tree branches and tops). The compression superstructure will increase the machine payload as well as productivity because it will facilitate also the mass unloading of hauled timber by tipping. Another optional use of the forwarder LVS 511 is a single-stage technology of timber harvesting by means of cutting head carried instead of grapple on the machine hydraulic crane.
