This article briefly familiarises with the history of cultivation and breeding of fruit trees in the Czech countries. The oldest written documents about fruits in Bohemia mainly come from different records on suzerains´ gardens, monasteries gardens and even from different authentic paintings. Written documents rise to the Roman period. In the Czech Countries, fruit growing has a long term tradition and has always been at a high level. This is thanks to many gardeners and breeders who will be recalled inthis article. Many varieties of Czech origin have been broaden all over Europe, often under a different name. The authors of this article would like to thank the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports for its support in the processing of historical literary resources.
