Equine influenza in the Czech Republic Between 1995 and 2000
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The first equine influenza virus in the world was isolated in the former Czechoslovakia in 1956 (Sovinová et al. 1956). Later it became a reference strain for subtype 1 and was designated A/Eq 1/Prague/56 (H7N7). In 1963 the subtype 2 of equine influenza virus emerged in the USA and was designated A/Eq 2/Miami/63 (Waddell et al. 1963). In the Czech Republic, subtype 2 influenza virus was first isolated in 1989 (Pospíšil et al. 1991). Significant changes in subtype 2 antigen were found in horse influenza outbreaks in Europe between 1963-1979 and further changes in 1979-1989. Differences between European and American strains were observed in epidemics in 1987-1988. Another antigenic drift in European strains was recorded between 1989 and 1995. All isolated strains belonged to the subtype 2. The 1995 isolates showed greatest similarity to Euro-Asian strains from the turn of 1980s and 1990s. This may be explained by limited contacts between West European horses and ours at that time. The
