    Aims: The aim of this study is to investigate the feasibility of surgical a potentially endoscopic stenting and to verify mucosal reaction and biodegradation after placement the novel, BPS biliary stent in a pig model. Methods: The BPS stent was placed through the duodenotomy and through the papilla into the bile duct nowadays in 16 pigs from 26. We used stents of 6mm of diameter later with 8 and 10 mm. We assessed four groups each of four laboratory pigs at 2, 8, 13 and 22 weeks follow-up. After surgical evaluating of an abdominal cavity the pigs were sacrificed under anaesthesia to remove the bile duct together with the stent. The bile duct was examined macroscopically and histologically. Results: All stents were inserted into the bile duct through the papilla after small dilatation. The self-expansion was correct in all cases. Bile duct obstruction was absent and none animal suffer from complication of a surgical procedure.
