Congenital abnormalities of the vertebral column in rabbits
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The spine in rabbits consists of 7 cervical, 12 thoracic, 7 lumbar and 4 sacral and 15 caudal vertebrae, but physiological number of thoracic and lumbar vertebrae vary in literature. Congenital abnormalities of the spine are identified radiographically.Previously described forms in other species include transitional vertebrae, hemivertebrae, block vertebrae, atlantoaxial malformations and spina bifida. The purpose of this study was to estimate the variance of different number of vertebrae in spine andincidence of all types of congenital vertebral anomalies in a population of rabbits. The radiographic archive was searched for radiographs of whole rabbits' vertebral column in two orthogonal views. The caudal part of tail was not included in the study. All radiographs were reviewed to presence of congenital anomaly and number of vertebrae in each segment of spine was counted. A total of 164 rabbits were studied (85 males and 79 females). Seven cervical(C7), 12 thoracic (Th12), 7 lumbar
