Successful therapy of multiple intraabdominal abscesses in a pet rabbit caused by P. multocida serotype A
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Pasteurella multocida is a common respiratory pathogen and can produce several disease processes, including rhinitis, sinusitis, conjunctivitis, nasolacrimal duct infections, otitis, tracheitis, pneumonia, and abscesses. The organism gains entry to the host through the nares or through wounds.1 Two year old castrated male rabbit was referred to the clinic with progressive weight loss. Rabbit started to lose weight after castration, which was performed in another clinic before 5 months. Clinical examination revealed cachexy (BCS 1.5/5), low skin elasticity and distended abdomen with multiple oval to rounded masses of size 3-15 cm in diameter. Haematology and plasma chemistry showed lekocytosis (18.4 x109; normal range 5.2-12.5 x109) with neutrophilia (79 %, 14.54 x109; normal range 20-75 %) and hyperglobulinaemia (47.3 g/l; normal range 15-28 g/l).2 Urinalysis was unremarkable. Abdominal radiography, ultrasound and contrast computed tomography revealed the presence of multiple masses on
