Pretreatment leukocyte ratios as predictors of outcome in canine diffuse large B-cell lymphoma

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

Leukocyte ratios correlate with outcome in several human lymphoma types, including diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Little is known about their prognostic significance in canine DLBCL. In one study, lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) was found to correlate with progression free (PFS) and lymphoma specific survival (LSS). The aim of the retrospective study was to evaluate the prognostic significance of pretreatment leukocyte ratios in 52 canine DLBCL treated with CHOP. Only dogs without prior treatment were included. Leukocyte and platelets concentrations were obtained by ADVIA 2120? (Siemens Healthcare, Vienna, Austria) and microscopically corrected after each numeric and/or graphic aberration. Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), neutrophil?to?eosinophil ratio (NER), eosinophil-to-monocyte ratio (EMR), LMR and platelet?to?lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were calculated from collected leukocyte concentrations. ROC curve was used to find optimal cut-off for each ratio. LMR was excluded from further analyses because of its low area under the curve (0.5). High NLR (cut-off: 3.3) was significantly associated with inferior LSS (165 vs. 305 days, P=0.04) but not with PFS (124 vs. 240 days, P=0.12). Low EMR (cut-off: 0.12) was significantly associated with lower PFS (116 vs. 306 days, P=0.03) but not with LSS (162 vs. 378 days, P=0.1). High PLR and NER showed a tendency to inferior PFS and LSS but without statistical significance. Leukocyte ratios, especially NLR and EMR may serve as prognostic indicators in canine DLBCL. Prospective studies assessing leukocyte ratios in larger cohort of patients and in other common lymphoma types are highly warranted.
