Phenolic compounds from Plectranthus ciliatus e. Mey. as hyaluronidase inhibitors
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Plectranthus ciliatus E. Mey. (Lamiaceae) is an herb native to South Africa planted as ornamental. It was also used in personal hygiene and to wash animal skins. This species has not been studied phytochemically in detail, although the genus Plectranthus plays important role in traditional African medicine and is known as a rich source of diterpenes, predominantly abietane, labdane and kaurane diterpenes and phenolic compounds such as methoxylated flavonoids and caffeic acid derivatives. Five phenolic compounds have been isolated from methanolic extract of P. ciliatus aerial parts ? caffeic acid, rosmarinic acid, methylrosmarinate, nepetoidin B and flavonoid salvigenin. Compounds were identified by co-HPLC-DAD with standards and by MS. Structure of methylrosmarinate was determined by NMR. All mentioned compounds have been tested for their ability to inhibit hyaluronidase using colorimetric Morgan-Elson assay method with quercetin as a standard. The obtained results showed, that tested phenolic compounds exhibit lower hyaluronidase inhibitory activity than standard quercetin.
